A businessman must be efficient and skilled in communication. Although a businessman has to do physical labor in addition to his mental work success ultimately depends on how he conveys his knowledge, ideas, and experience to others through interviews, group discussions, seminars, conferences, lectures, and speeches and impresses them up to what limits. In fact, a businessman can make progress in his business by practicing above mentioned verbal business communication practices and enterprise forms. Such practices are generally required in the offices of private and public sectors and enterprises.

In this blog we shall discuss the practice of the importance of oral business presentation:

Oral Presentation

“Presentation means speaking to the listener or a group of listeners with a duly prepared lecture, which is suitable to listeners and the objectives of the related subject. It is very important that the presentation of the matter should be effective and must be suitable for the listener, keeping in view the nature and circumstances that influence the listener. The presentation can be divided into two parts:

(i) Individual Presentation,

(ii) Group Presentation.

Individual presentation refers to presenting thoughts/ideas by only one speaker on a selected subject before the concerned listeners. On the other hand, group presentation refers to presenting thoughts/ideas on any pre-determined subject by many speakers in their own way before the listeners. Members of the group mutually decide to throw light on the various aspects of the selected subject. The group leader convenes the meeting and arranges the whole presentation in a systematic manner. The characteristics of group presentation are as follows:

(i) Special care has to be taken in preparing the plan for the group presentation. As many speakers are included in the group, deciding the order of their presentations is very important. (BCom 1st Year Individual and Group Presentation Notes Study Material)

(ii) Attention has to be paid to ensure that proper coordination is maintained amongst the various speakers in the group presentation. These various speakers may use the latest devices and notes to impress with their efficiency and professionalism.

(iii) In a group presentation, the members of the group should be well prepared as per their order in presenting the particular aspect of the subject with necessary audio-visual aids. The way they have to enter/leave the dias and their sitting/standing postures have to be pre-determined. (BCom 1st Year Individual and Group Presentation Notes Study Material)

(iv) In a group presentation ‘closing’ is very important, which particular member has to speak at the closing and how he has to do it and at what time, has been pre-determined? For example, if the presentation has to be summarised at closing then all the members and listeners should know about it. In case, the ‘closing’ has to be done with questions-answer series, then better it would to care about its plan well in advance. Who will invite the questions? Who will answer? Everything has to be pre-planned. The main part of ‘closing’ is ‘thanks-giving’. Every member of the group has to show by gestures that they are thankful for the presentation.

(iv) An important aspect of group presentation is its rehearsal. Making repeated rehearsals is beneficial as it gives an opportunity for improvement through critical appraisals and suggestions from the members of the group as well as from outsiders.
