Oral Presentation

“Presentation means speaking to the listener or a group of listeners with a duly prepared lecture, which is suitable to listeners and the objectives of the related subject. It is very important that the presentation of the matter should be effective and must be suitable for the listener, keeping in view the nature and circumstances that influence the listener. The presentation can be divided into two parts:

(i) Individual Presentation,

(ii) Group Presentation.

Individual presentation refers to presenting thoughts/ideas by only one speaker on a selected subject before the concerned listeners. On the other hand, group presentation refers to presenting thoughts/ideas on any pre-determined subject by many speakers in their own way before the listeners. Members of the group mutually decide to throw light on the various aspects of the selected subject. The group leader convenes the meeting and arranges the whole presentation in a systematic manner. The characteristics of group presentation are as follows:

(ii) Attention has to be paid to ensure that proper coordination is maintained amongst the various speakers in the group presentation. These various speakers may use the latest devices and notes to impress with their efficiency and professionalism.

The following can be the objectives of a presentation:

Time Distribution of Presentation

  1. The starting will make the presentation effective only when it succeeds in attracting the attention of the audience. The presenter should devote 10% of the total time to this purpose. This is the time when the presenter can successfully attempt to establish his credibility.
